THE EMBODIED IMAGE
Inès Dessoy
Urban archetypes, as structural and conceptual models, offer blueprints for the organization of cities. These archetypes not only influence the form and function of urban environments, but also interact profoundly with the personal experiences of their inhabitants. Each individual’s perception and experience of the city is shaped by a combination of personal, cultural, social and environmental factors, creating a unique and dynamic relationship between urban archetypes and individual experience.
When I’m in Belgium or in a city I know, every place I visit takes on an image in my head that’s associated with a host of memories. In this way, each individual has his or her own experience of the city, which is seen in an infinite number of different ways. When I go to a new city, I can discover each corner neutrally, without my experience being associated with a personal one.
HOW MY HEIMAT INFLUENCES MY PERCEPTION OF CITIES
My perception of the places I grew up in influence my perception of Dresden. When I walk around this city, I recognize the airy, tree-lined spaces of my childhood village. Unconsciously, my childhood shaped the way I feel in a city. My friends who have grown up in other kind of environment don’t have different opinion and preference. On the other hand, Brussels, where I studied, has nothing to do with my village. Bad memories from my first years of university during covid time make gave me bad memories of the city. Each place is attached to a memory, and it is hard to dissociate from them.
POETRY IS AN ARTISTIC SENSIBILITY
Poetry is not to be considered as a type of artistic expression, but as a superior artistic sensibility. Poetry refers to an affective and meaningful experience.
